Spring Events

Starting this past October, Carlton Hobbs once again joined the exhibition circuit beginning with the San Francisco Fall Antiques Show. After extensive preparation, including the production of our latest catalog, we then set off for the Palm Beach American International Fine Art Fair in February, which was met with great success. Now, with the last days of winter almost behind us, we here at Carlton Hobbs are gearing up for an exciting spring season. From May 13th-22nd we will be holding an exhibition here at our New York gallery called “ON TOPS: Table Tops from the 2nd Century AD to the 19th Century.” It is the presentation of twenty of some of the most brilliant examples of tables whose tops were created using techniques in pietra dura, scagliola, micromosaic, gilding and embossing. Then in early June we will travel to London for the Olympia International Art & Antiques Fair where we will showcase, among a variety of objects, the three Habsburg paintings mentioned in our previous post and a German 18th century Metamorphic Secretaire disguised as a ruin. Its painted cork façade, a feature which has never before been seen on furniture, opens to reveal a mechanically operated secretaire abattant. Research of all pieces included in our exhibitions is ongoing, and we will be posting our latest findings on the blog as they occur. We are very much looking forward to these future projects and hope you are able to join us!
