The Thornhill Stem Cup At Carlton Hobbs

March 18 2016, 3:57pm

This week at Carlton Hobbs, in parallel with New York’s Asia Week, we hosted a very special exhibition of the highly important Thornhill Stem Cup, together with Lyon & Turnbull and Freeman’s Auction. This extraordinary blue and white stem cup, with a Ming Xuande (1426-35) mark, has been described by experts as one of the most important pieces of Asian art to have left the United Kingdom in the past decade. It is incredibly rare to view outside museum collections. The exhibition at Carlton Hobbs was on view through March 16th. The Thornhill Stem Cup will be exhibited next during Hong Kong’s Asia Week (May 28-30th), before its auction in Lyon & Turnbull’s Chinese Works of Art, Hong Kong  sale on May 31st. Here are some photos from the afternoon tea we held here at Carlton Hobbs earlier this week in celebration of this remarkable piece!
