A New York antiques dealer presents Nikita Khrushchev with a peace pipe at the UN. 1960. From the late 1950s though 1970’s, our building here at 60 East 93rd Street served as the Permanent Mission of Romania to the United Nations. In October of 1960, the building was visited by Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev,  who was in New York for the 902nd Plenary Meeting of the UN General Assembly, held at the United Nations. It was during this particular visit to New York that the famous shoe-banging incident took place at the UN. Check out this article from October 6th, 1960, which describes Mr. Khrushchev exiting the building here at 60 East 93rd Street after a reception!   New York Times, October 6, 1960.
