A Pair of Jacaranda Side Chairs

Carlton Hobbs LLC, a pair of Jose I carved jacaranda side chairs, circa 1755

This extremely fine pair of carved jacaranda side chairs are probably Brazilian dating back to 1755.  Each chair has a shaped pierced back surmounted by a carved rocaille scroll above a shaped splat, the original embossed leather seat depicting a cupid.  The whole raised on four legs, the front pair of cabriole form terminating in hooved feet, the outswept rear legs, the legs united by a shaped stretcher.

To our surprise, when looking underneath the original leather seat, we found this label placing the chairs with the Butler Capital Corporation in London.
