Term of the Day: C-Scroll 11/12/09
Detail of one of a pair of giltwood mirrors from the Palazzo Cenci, Rome.
A C-scroll is a decorative motif originating in classical architecture, and often found on furniture, particularly from the rococo period. The shape, as seen repeated in the present example, is of a single curve with both ends terminating in circular spirals, as in a volute.
