A MAGNIFICENT REGENCY ROSEWOOD AND ORMOLU MOUNTED BOOKCASE

This magnificent library bookcase exemplifies the style and sophistication of the finest Regency furniture. The bookcase, which must have been intended for a library of great scale and grandeur, is closely comparable to an example illustrated by Clifford Musgrave in his Regency Furniture 1800 to 1830 (figure 1). That piece, also made of rosewood, is of similarly monumental scale to the present piece, is so closely related in its proportion, design and detail as to be almost certainly the creation of the same workshop.1
